USING PROFILEMD

ProfileMD essentials

Start here if you are finding a physician, interpreting a profile or deciding where to go next.

01What is ProfileMD.ca?

ProfileMD.ca is a public patient-information website that organizes physician-approved profiles, visit-preparation guidance and links to healthcare resources. It helps patients understand public information and prepare for a more focused conversation with a clinic or physician.

02Can I book an appointment or message a physician through ProfileMD?

No. ProfileMD does not book appointments, manage clinic schedules or carry patient messages. Use the clinic contact information shown on an eligible physician profile and confirm the current process directly with the clinic.

03Does ProfileMD provide medical advice or tell me how urgent my symptoms are?

No. ProfileMD provides general educational and navigation information. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment or assess urgency. For an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

04What does a verified profile mean?

Verification describes specific identity, source, authorization and maintenance checks for public information. It is not a ranking, clinical-quality assessment, endorsement or guarantee that a physician is accepting patients.

05What should I do if a profile appears incorrect?

Use the Report a Correction page for potentially incorrect, outdated or broken public information. Do not include symptoms, health-card details, medical records or other personal health information.

PREPARATION AND PRIVACY

Prepare without sending private information

Know what stays on your device and when you should move to a clinic-approved secure service.

01Does ProfileMD store my preparation checklist?

No. ProfileMD preparation pages are designed for private use. You can read or print a checklist, but the public site does not create a patient account, save your answers or send them to a clinic.

02Should I enter symptoms, medications or my health-card number on ProfileMD?

No. Do not submit personal health information through public ProfileMD pages. Share sensitive information only through a secure clinical channel that your physician or clinic has specifically approved for you.

03Can preparation guarantee a faster appointment or a particular outcome?

No. Preparation may help you organize relevant information and questions, but it does not change clinical priority, guarantee access, shorten wait times or replace a professional assessment.

OCEAN FORMS

Understand Ocean before you click

Ocean is an external healthcare platform. These answers explain the handoff without overstating what happens next.

01What is Ocean?

Ocean is a third-party healthcare platform used by participating clinics for services such as secure electronic forms and patient communication. ProfileMD does not own or operate Ocean. The clinic decides which Ocean forms it uses and how submissions are reviewed.

02What happens when I click an Ocean button?

You leave ProfileMD and open an external Ocean page. First check whether the button is labelled as an educational preview or as a clinic-approved live form. An educational preview is only for learning and must never contain personal health information.

03Does an Ocean submission go into my electronic medical record immediately?

Not necessarily. Website-form submissions normally enter the clinic's Ocean inbox for review. Depending on the clinic's configuration and electronic medical record integration, accepted information may then be imported or downloaded into the appropriate chart. This is not universal or immediate.

04How quickly will a clinic review an Ocean form?

Review time depends on the clinic's own workflow and operating hours. Submission does not mean that someone is watching the form continuously, that an appointment is booked or that a response will be immediate.

05Can I use an Ocean form for an emergency or urgent problem?

No. Never use ProfileMD, an Ocean form or another web form for an emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For a time-sensitive non-emergency concern, follow your clinic's official instructions.

06When is it appropriate to enter personal health information in Ocean?

Only use a live Ocean form that your clinic or physician has explicitly approved for that purpose. Confirm the clinic name and instructions before entering information. Never enter personal information into a ProfileMD educational preview.

07Why can structured Ocean forms be useful?

A clinic-approved form can collect information in a consistent, legible format before review. This may help patients organize relevant details and may support a more focused assessment. It does not guarantee faster care, clinical priority or a specific outcome.

THE OCEAN HANDOFF

One click can open a different system. Know what happens next.

ProfileMD may explain or link to an Ocean form, but the clinical workflow belongs to the participating clinic. The label on the button tells you whether you are viewing an educational preview or a clinic-approved live form.
